MW:WW / More Works : With Wood

Designer: STUDIO BYCOLOR Kaori Akiyama
Material: Wood
Process: Soaked in chemicals and dried throughly.”

This world is filled with material. Questioning the extraordinary demand for wood, which seeks for easier fabrication and maintenance in the result of increased usage of inorganic material, the designer introduces this project of surface treatment called to “MW: WW” to capture the act of breathing by wood. This project communicates the message that the wood is a living material, by exposing pores in between growth rings. After removing the adhesive element from the main composition of wood, the final product retains an interesting texture as well as hygroscopicity and sound absorbency.
The architectural accessories and jewelry collection inspired by this project is now available in market. Moreover, the new collection of crutch bag, which was created using tiles used for interior decoration and python leather in association with this project, will also be presented.
