Technique: Applied the soaking method which has been used to produce porcelain in the local area of Japan in Seto, for over 100 years ago.
Process: After various experiments, the used knit wear was chosen to carve out patterns.
This project is a challenge to alter impressions as well as meaning or value of existing objects by adding an extra element. The designer applied the technique used to create Seto lace dolls to carve out patterns of used knitwear on porcelain. The soaking method of Seto dolls is unique in the way that it allows the users to sculpt the pattern of targeted items without having have to use any mold. Moreover, the pattern can later be added to any unglazed porcelain objects. By combining the uniform process of mass-production with the work of hands that imprints unique impressions in every creation, the designer does not only aim to explore new physical aethetics but hopes to discover infinite possibilities generated by new methods distinctive from those of volume production.
